Interior Lakes Heating Up June 2010

June 4, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

This last week or two has been a little slower  with our barometric pressure falling putting the fish off.  This week we are in store for some nicer weather bringing with it more hatches. The Chronie fisher must have with him black and red rib ice cream cones, Chromies,  static bags and limeys in their arsenal.   Lots of Mayfly hatches are happening now,  some  productive patterns are 52 Buicks and Pheasant Tail nymphs, with a Gray Wulff or Adams Dry fly in your box.  Don’t get caught without  your mayfly  dries at this time of year.  My favorite  pattern this year has  been the Bulldog, I substitute this pattern with  an orange bead and eliminate the olive  hackle. It has brought  on some great days this last month.  Try fishing leeches such as the Bulldog, or Pumpkin Head  on a heavy sink line such as a type 6 to get down  to the fish and hold on the strikes can be ferocious. Towards  the end of the month Caddis  should start to hatch as well  as damsels.  Bring these patterns  with you in the nymph stage, and drys for later on.

Early Season Chinook Fishing June 2010

June 3, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Local saltwater fishing has been fair to good for the early chinooks.  Your best presentations are green glo  Coyote Spoons or Winter White and Purple Haze Hoochies.  For the bait fisherman anchovies  in a green glo or u.v colors seem to be productive.  The most productive places have been  Thrasher Rock,  the Hump or the backside of Bowen Island.

Local Lakes are Heavily Stocked June 2010

June 3, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Most of the Local lakes are fishing really well with a heavy stocking program over the past  two years.  The most heavily stocked lakes are  Lafarge, Como and Rice Lake.  Most anglers are bottom fishing these lakes with powerbait in Orange, Chartreuse and Lemon Lime colorations.  Small Panther Martins and Mepps are popular spinners, with Skookum Spinners being the most popular.  For the Fly Fishers try micro leeches such as pumpkin heads, Rick Scotts, and Kaufmann mini leeches with olive being the most popular colour.  Mayflies such as Pheasant Tail’s and 52 Buicks work well either trolled or retrieved.  For the Chronie fisher use Double Shea’s in black and olive.

Coho are in June 2010

With most of the local rivers being closed at this time of the year you have limited options for river fishing.  You can try Cutthroat fishing on the Stave, Harrison, or Pitt River using small silver spinners such as Mepps or Blue Fox.  Fry patterns such as epoxy minnows, rolled muddlers in gold, silver or olive.  For the faster water try Chartreuse Clouser’s.  The dollie fishing can be superb at this time of year.  Popular places such as the Squamish and it’s tributaries can produce some big bruisers.  Intruder patterns such as Garry’s Whorehouse in blacks and blues, pink and the sculpinator all work well.  The Capilano is plugged with blue back Cohos right now.  For flies try olive wooly buggers, gcck’s, Kelsey’s hope,  and Chartreuse Clousers. For gear use  roe or colorado spinners.
