It’s that time of year again for Riverside’s Annual Sturgeon Derby. This year’s derby will be taking place on Saturday October 30th 2010.  We will be meeting once again at Two Bit bar (Duncan Bar) on the Fraser, which is located above the top end of Crescent Island just upstream from the mouth of the Stave River on the Langley side, at 9am.  The entry fee this year is still $30.00 per rod.  We will  be offering 50/50 tickets for sale from now until the day of the derby in hopes of getting a really good pot once again this year. Last years 50/50 winner took home about $400.00 and the other half was donated to Hyde Creek Fish Hatchery.  First place (Largest Fish) will once again take 2/3rds of the money, last year that was $2300.00.  Second place (2nd largest fish) will get 1st choice at the prizes,  last year that was  a Shimano Tyrnos 20 worth $400.00 donated by Shimano Canada.  Third place (most fish in inches) will receive 1/3rd of the prize money, last years prize was $590.00. All derby entry fees  must be paid in cash as well as for the 50/50 draw as the prizes are in cash.  Come on in and register now and don’t forget to get your  50/50 tickets.   50/50 tickets will be 1 for $3,  3 for $5 and 10 for $10.

Fraser River Sept 2010

I’ll start off by saying, Yes, sockeye are OPEN! And will continue to be open till September 19th, 2010, one hour after sunset. Your daily limit for sockeye is two and Chinook salmon is one. An estimated 14 million sockeye have yet to enter the Fraser, so fishing should be still be great all the way till the closing date.

For those whose freezers are full, don’t be shy to bust out the Sturgeon rod as fishing has been excellent. Roe, salmon bellies, and pike minnow have been the hot tickets.

If salmon or sturgeon doesn’t suit you, fishing with worms or roe off  just about any Fraser dock will get you into whitefish and pike minnow.
