Recreational Angler Study for the Okanagan
November 25, 2010 by rsfat · Leave a Comment
Currently, researchers from Simon Fraser University, with support of the Freshwater Fisheries Society, are conducting a study of recreational anglers in the Okanagan (region 8).
The study will help us to understand the regional distribution of anglers, and provide insights into the factors influencing anglers’ decisions. As an added incentive, your name will be entered in a prize draw once we have received your completed survey.

2010 Sturgeon Derby Results
Thanks to everyone who turned out this year. This was the 6th Annual Sturgeon Derby and with 164 rods entered and 53 boats taking part it was by far the largest to date. We awarded $4695.00 in prize money and gave away over $1000.00 in gear donated by our suppliers. Even though the tides didn’t cooperate the weather certainly did.
Here’s the Sturgeon Derby winning fish. It was a 79″ sturgeon caught by Ashley Janott. That was enough for her to take home first place which was $2982.00. Many fish were caught that day but only 22 fi
sh measured in over 5 feet(minimum size for the derby).
The second and third largest fish were caught by Jarrett Gillies (73″), Chuck Grant (72″). Jarrett picked up a custom made Fetha Styx Sturgeon rod worth $400, proudly donated by Fetha Styx in Redmond , Washington. Chuck Grant picked up a Shimano TLD 20 reel worth $270.00 proudly donated by Shimano Canada. Jarrett Gillies, Chuck Grant and Dave Donaldson managed to measure in 4 fish for a total length of 270″ or 22 1/2 ft of fish to also win them the prize for total overall length which was worth $1491.00. We would like to thank all the guys who came out this year to support the derby and we hope to see you again next year!
We would also like to thank our suppliers for their donations. Fetha Styx for the custom Sturgeon rod worth $400. Shimano Canada for the TLD 20 and Talora rod worth $330. Redl Sports Distributors for
