August 3rd RIVER REPORT

Well I guess I’ll start with the Vedder (Chilliwack) River as it is pretty much the best spring producing river at the moment …next to the Fraser of course. This week will be the peak of the red spring run for the Vedder. The river is in great shape, clarity, height, and temperature are all in check. As the days go on this month the river will start to get its mix of the more plentiful, larger, robust white springs. Try roe, spinners, and blades as springs are suckers for them.

Alright now for the Fraser! The river is stacked with sockeye and are being caught at 10 to 1 over the springs if not more! Although there isn’t an opening for the sockeye yet, we are waiting for the DFO report which is to be released later this afternoon. The predictions for an opening are very favorable .Bar fishing has been fair, and will only be getting better.

Sturgeon fishing is excellent at the moment and FRESH ROE is in!!!!!

As for the local rivers, trout fishing is always good this time of year…can you say dry flies!

2010-2012 Hunting Regulations Are Here! July 9 2010

We just received our box of 2010-2012 Hunting Synopsis so come on in and get your copy. We only have 100 copies so we are only giving out 1 copy per person. The regulations are also only going to be printed once every 2 years so hang on to this copy because once they are gone they are gone until July 2012.

New Hunting Regulations July 2010

The new hunting regulations should be in store by next week. For those of you whocan’t wait the Service BC agent in Maple Ridge located at #175-22470 Dewdney Trunk Road in Maple Ridge has copies already, as well you can check out the electronic version at http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wildlife/hunting/regulations/

Just a reminder that the hunting regulations are good for two years now, from 2010-2012, so please hang on to them as no more copies will be printed. We will be limiting customers to one copy per person as we have a limited supply. Watch this web site as we will announce when we receive the new regs.

9th Annual PoCo Canada Day Fishing Derby

The 9th Annual PoCo Canada Day Fishing Derby will be held in Lions Park from 8 am- 11:30am

This is a great opportunity for youth 12 and under to test their fishing skills on the Coquitlam River. There will be lots of prizes and family fun!

The Port Coquitlam Lions Club will also be hosting their annual pancake breakfast.

Price of Licences Going UP

For those of you who hunt and fish I recommend buying your licence before July 1st 2010. As of July 1st the HST will be in and you will be paying 7% more on all licences and tags than you do now. That could save you $2.52 on a fishing licence and $2.25 on your hunting licence. It will also save you $1.05 on each of your tags or more, which can add up quickly. So get in and get your licence now before you have to pay more.

Get your Pleasure Craft Operator Card Now!!

We have just heard from a reliable source that if you don’t have your Pleasure Craft Operator Card by the end of May you are going to have to get it renewed every five years. Right now if you get your licence it is good forever. Well our good old government has decided thats not in their financial interest. So starting in June if you get your licence it will expire in 5 years and there will be a cost to renew, if you have it already you will be grand fathered. They will also be making the test much harder with twice as many questions. I spoke with a marine captain who had an oppurtunity to see the new test and he said that ” you’ll definitely have to take the book home and study”. So if you don’t have your licence get it done asap. One way is to take it online at www.boaterexam.com or give the guys at Red Hawk Survival a call- #604-476-9568.
